Offshore Sensing is proud to be a selected partner in GEORGE, a major Horizon Europe initiative focused on developing next-generation technologies for autonomous ocean observation. This collaboration brings together world-class marine research institutions and industry leaders with a shared mission: to advance high-precision, energy-efficient tools for monitoring the ocean’s role in the global climate system.
Through this partnership, Offshore Sensing contributes its experience in long-endurance, autonomous surface platforms—specifically the Sailbuoy—to help improve biogeochemical ocean observations and expand the reach of ocean monitoring infrastructure.
GEORGE (Next Generation Ocean Observing Technology) is a four-year project funded under the Horizon Europe programme aiming to improve the global ocean observing system through innovation in sensor technologies, platform capabilities, and training resources.

By developing robust, scalable, and interoperable technologies, GEORGE supports informed decision-making in climate research, ocean governance, and sustainable marine resource management.

Developed by Offshore Sensing, the Sailbuoy is a wind-powered Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) designed for long-duration, autonomous missions at sea. Compact and robust, it combines wind propulsion with solar-powered electronics, enabling zero-emission operations over thousands of nautical miles.
Sailbuoy can carry a wide range of oceanographic and meteorological sensors, making it ideal for monitoring parameters such as:
Carbon dioxide concentration
Water temperature and salinity
Ocean currents and wave patterns
Meteorological conditions
Thanks to its low-power design and satellite communication system, Sailbuoy provides real-time data from even the most remote marine environments—without requiring a crewed vessel or direct human intervention.
