Offshore Sensing Appoints New CEO to Drive Global Growth

Offshore Sensing, the company behind the innovative autonomous data platform Sailbuoy, has appointed Max Hartvigsen as its new CEO. Hartvigsen, who returned to Norway after 17 years in Singapore, working in leadership roles within the subsea and energy industries, brings a wealth of international experience to the role.

Sailbuoy, the self-sailing data platform developed by Offshore Sensing, is already known for its capabilities in ocean data collection, having autonomously crossed the Atlantic from Canada to the UK. With the ability to operate for extended periods without assistance, Sailbuoy is powered by wind and uses solar energy to keep its sensors running. The platform is designed to be flexible, with customizable sensor setups tailored to client needs, including options for wave, wind, and water quality monitoring.

To date, the company has primarily sold Sailbuoy to research organizations. Hartvigsen’s vision is to expand into new markets such as energy, defence, and other industries that rely on ocean data. He aims to scale the company, build its brand, and increase visibility in the market.

“We have a robust product that can operate autonomously for months without emissions and at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods,” says Hartvigsen, who is now focused on expanding Sailbuoy’s customer base and preparing Offshore Sensing for growth.

With the support of investors Norce and Sarsia, Offshore Sensing is gearing up for this next phase, which includes building a new website and expanding its team. The company plans to position Sailbuoy as a key solution for industries seeking sustainable and efficient ways to gather ocean data.
